Facebook & Timeline

Did you willingly succumb to temptation?  Did you feel pressured into following the herd?  Or are you heroically standing firm and staying with what you’ve got.  I’m talking of course about the Facebook Timeline design for people’s home pages.  You too can be reminded about how quickly your life is passing before you. You too will have to search around for a widescreen photo or else be confronted by a blank space.  As I write these words are you still blase about the whole issue, or is your blood beginning to boil, your latent conservatism overflowing?  Let’s take a deep breath, relax and review the facts. It Just Works – Unless It’s Not

There are many things that the technology giant Apple does well but one of the most important of those that has lead to their success is there shrewd use of marketing. The position themselves artfully in the market and the minds of their customers both as a type of technology company that deals in technomagic rather than nitty gritty technology, you know the sort that needs boring IT support or patching.

Now of course just like any technology company with computer products Apple’s hardware and software alike have their fair share of problems, be they manufacturing problems, software bugs or product limitations. However through artful use of marketing and product design Apple has persuaded people that they won’t need Mac or iPhone repairs for their precious magical devices. The extent of the persuasion goes all the way to allowing the impression of infallibility to maintain through these problems affecting Apple product users all across the world. To maintain the illusion of perfection in the light of evidence to the contrary  that truly is a form of witchcraft of the highest order. In fact some might say Apple has managed persisly the oppisite of Microsoft in this regard. Apple is given too easy of a time for technical problems by consumers and Microsoft is blamed for being terrible and all their products being broken when in reality they are not doing all that bad all said and done. Note: I am not saying Microsofts products are without issues.

No one with a lick of sense would doubt that Apple know how to make attractive and functionally helpful devices, and in many ways they have brought us amazing progress in the mobile market, but I suppose for some like me, they will always be a bit too magical for good their own good.

We can connect to more people more often, and access more information more quickly and easily than has ever been possible before now. More

Who is Website Hussy?

Have you ever noticed that many many websites tend to use the same models in the same poses to represent their customers or service staff?

I have and this lead to me to wonder who the models are and how far afield their visages have gotten.

The image I chose to explore my curiosity was of this charismatic miss:

Unplugged.

Don’t you just hate it when you have plugged your laptop into the mains… but you have forgotten to turn the socket on? I’ve done this so many times over the years, yet it still appears that I haven’t quite learnt my lesson!

I’ll be sat here writing my blog posts quite happily, convinced that my laptop battery is being rejuvenated… and then my screen will flick off.

DOH! I think it may be a good time to look for some ‘anti-dumbass’ software to download…

The Horrors of Home Computing.

Most people will happily agree that computers are super-duper useful. They can help to make life far simpler and they are really handy for all manner of different things; online shopping, movie/music downloads, maps, restaurant reviews, hotel booking… etc, etc.

However, most people will also agree that computers can be a bona fide pain in the ass at times too! They have a nasty habit of going on the blink and they will normally decide to do this at the most inconvenient of times. Obviously, some of this is down to ‘human error’ (even though we will prefer not to admit it), but not always… No, sometimes our computers seem to go wrong just for the sheer hell of it!!!!
